Lactose malabsorption occurs when there is an inability to fully digest the ‘milk sugar’.
Symptoms can begin soon after eating or drinking food or drinks that contain lactose.
The Hydrogen and Methane breath test is used to detect lactose malabsorption. This is a simple non-invasive investigation.
A baseline breath sample is measured by blowing directly into the analyser. This sample is then compared to further breath samples after a special testing solution is consumed.
Suitable for adults and children over 25kg in weight. A GP referral letter is not required
