Bedford Medical is delighted to announce the introduction of a new service allowing patients to have a genetic test to establish how well prescriptions are likely to work for them and which drugs might not be suitable. Dr Niall Maguire "Testing the way a patient's own personal genetic attributes affect their likely response to therapeutic drugs is an important developing area of medicine and general practice. In partnership with Genetix (a South African genetics testing service) and Letsbuyhealthcare, Bedford Medical is now offering pharmacogenetic analysis to patients who wish to purchase the test. The nurse or GP at the surgery will take the test, send the sample and report the results, as well as keep a record of the analysis in the patient file for future reference. The patient can use this information when medications are being suggested at the practice and by prescribers elsewhere". The PCSA is a network of GPs with a special interest in community-based surgery. Medical practitioners who have a particular interest in related topics including setting up a community-based surgery, community surgical procedures and dermatology & skin related issues. Now more than ever with pressures on hospital and other healthcare waiting lists it is important to highlight the excellent medical services available to patients in the community. Surgical procedures without going to hospital. Community Surgery Ireland provide a network of GPs who have the capability to undertake many of the procedures that would otherwise be referred to hospitals. Their ambition is to provide the right care, at the right time and in the right place. Dr David Buckley (Tralee) Dr Justin Kwong (Kilkenny) and Dr Niall Maguire (Navan) are the current directors of CSI and are leading a nationwide team of expert GPs.
